Work has commenced at Immanuel College, one of Bradford’s largest schools, to construct a new three-storey teaching block, refurbish the sports hall and existing science laboratories. The £3.4m project was secured under a Bradford Metropolitan District Council framework which selected contractors based on their skills and credentials for working within operational school environments.
Mark Shorney, Project Manager, said “we are working closely with the school to ensure our programme of works continues efficiently without disrupting the ongoing activities of the school, alongside this we are committed to enhancing our social value in the Bradford district through recruitment of local suppliers and subcontractors, offering local recruitment and work experience including apprenticeships, and providing support to local Bradford based community projects”
Also secured through a framework route is the £3m construction of a new sports hall and refurbishment of an existing classroom block at Our Lady & St Bede’s Catholic Academy in Stockton on Tees. This was procured through the NEPO (North East Purchasing Organisation) framework which William Birch secured a place on in 2018. Work has commenced and is scheduled for completion in Spring 2020.
The hat-trick of wins was completed at Bootham School in our home city, York. This project will see the School’s 6th Form spaces, which sit within the Grade II* Listed Main Building, transformed with traditional study rooms replaced by a range of light, bright contemporary spaces for study and socialising. In addition the project will provide a new careers’ space, offices and a dedicated area for learning support and English as an additional language (EAL). This is a return to site for William Birch after completing the new arts and music facility at the school in 2013.
