The construction of bespoke single-storey research building incorporating laboratory, research and temperature-controlled rooms. In addition, a £1million Grodome ‘greenhouse’ giving the university exacting control over internal climatic conditions. The entire facility has high level security, controlled remotely by the university. Extensive civils works were required to provide access to the facility located in a wooded residential area.

The client’s team were looking to create a first of its kind in England for this kind of experimental facility. This required extended collaboration between the novated design team, ourselves and the client’s research team. The project team therefore were flexible and responsive to necessary design development and changes. Due to the location of the new facility within a closed residential area relationship with local residents required very careful and constant liaison.
