Round Foundry, Leeds

Round Foundry, Leeds
CTP St James Ltd

The alteration and adaption of three existing Foundry buildings of international historic significance, the buildings are Grade II listed and the project was carried out under an archaeological brief. The works included internal demolition, full strip-out and piled foundations with insitu mezzanine floor. Externally new slate roofs and repairs to the extensive brick envelope was included. There was a full mechanical & electrical installation including plumbing. Internal stud walls and glazed screening, floor finishes and decoration created the open plan office spaces. Internal balustrades were provided to existing and new staircases as well as an external lift in a copper and curtain wall enclosure.
Site congestion was a significant consideration with the building located near the Leeds centre. Material storage and space for installation of extensive façade scaffolding was at a premium. Timed deliveries were utilised to ensure that the client’s existing tenants were not unduly inconvenienced. Our extensive experience of brick repair was fully utilised on the externals of the building as we worked closely with the conservation officer and archaeologist to ensure features were retained and or logged. The structure’s stability was in question and it proved necessary to instigate comprehensive façade stabilisation to a part of the building whilst continuing with the original works.
