East Riding of Yorkshire council has appointed William Birch for the first phase of the development. The two-phased development is expected to take around 30 months to complete. The first phase includes the conversion of the laundry block into two classrooms, a new estate office and visitor orientation room and new toilets in the stable block all under construction.
Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Sewerby Hall and Gardens is an important and popular cultural attraction for both residents and visitors, which is reflected by the council’s commitment of £1.6 million towards the project, from the council’s capital programme.
“Working with the Heritage Lottery Fund and local volunteers, we intend to make Sewerby a fascinating, stimulating and informative day out for schools, residents and tourists.”
Chris Birch, Managing Director of William Birch & Sons said: “we are delighted to have been selected as the main contractor for such an exciting project and we look forward to restoring an important part of Bridlington’s history for the benefit of the local community and visitors to the area.”
