Two teams at William Birch battled it out at this years Plusnet Yorkshire Marathon held in York on Sunday 11th October.
The two teams, 'Will.i.Am Birch' and 'Birch, 141 years and still running' took part in the relay race, running past some of York's splendid historic sites and sharing the 26.2 mile course.
118 teams of 6 runners took part and 'Will.i.Am Birch', led by Finance Director Alistair Birch, came in 38th place with a time of 3 hours and 48 mins followed 13 minutes later by 'Birch, 141 years and still running' led by team captain and Construction Manager, Simon Potter, placing them 65th.
The marathon is one in a series of events and activities organised by teams in William Birch to raise vital funds for St Leonard's hospice in York over the last twelve months.
Simon Potter, Construction Manager said "St Leonard's Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support for local people with life threatening illnesses and it has and will continue to touch the lives of many of our staff. The marathon has been a great way to raise funds for the hospice through sponsorship as well as building team spirit amongst our staff, supply chain and customers. We are delighted with our fundraising efforts so far, totalling over £10,000 with still more to come, we couldn't have achieved this without the support of customers, staff, their families, subcontractors and suppliers. We look forward to announcing our final total raised for the Hospice later this year"
