## Team Members
- [Jason Ware](https://www.williambirch.co.uk/team-member/jason-ware/): Jason joined the business in 2005 initially as a joiner, progressing into Site Management. He worked on many of our education sector projects as well as a number of phases at the grade 2* listed Brierley Building in Northallerton. From site management he progressed to his current role as Contracts / Resource Manager and is now responsible for our Small Works team, working locally. His team of skilled operatives deliver projects for clients such as University of York, Askham Bryan College and the Helmsley Group. 
- [Mark Herbert](https://www.williambirch.co.uk/team-member/mark-herbert/): Mark joined William Birch in 2018 initially as a Senior Quantity Surveyor and has subsequently progressed to the role of Managing Quantity Surveyor. He supports a team of QS’s, from Trainee QS to Senior QS, ensuring we consistently deliver accurate commercial services to all our projects across the construction business. He is committed to providing our customers with cost certainty and has a wide portfolio of experience including both the NEC and JCT suite of contracts. 
- [Joan Horwell](https://www.williambirch.co.uk/team-member/joan-horwell/): Joan has been a valued member of William Birch since 1998, overseeing the day-to-day financial operations of the business and managing the accounts team.
- [Andrew Marshall](https://www.williambirch.co.uk/team-member/andrew-marshall/): Andrew initially joined the procurement team at William Birch in 2006. His role was far reaching across many aspects of the business and he has added great value to our processes and systems, improving the experience for our customers, staff and supply chain. Since 2017 Andrew has taken on the role of Systems Manager and is now responsible for the management of a broad spectrum of functions including, quality, environmental, IT, procurement and facilities management.

She plays a central role from pre-construction through to final account, ensuring robust commercial management, strong financial governance and effective contractual leadership at every stage of a project’s lifecycle.

Appointed Construction Director in 2016, Simon now leads the operational delivery of all construction services across the company and wider region.

This approach enabled the team to maintain continuity, transitioning smoothly from one phase to the next while meeting the client's requirements and budget.

The layout incorporates a dedicated office area, kitchen facilities, storage space and ablutions, creating a practical and comfortable working environment for day-to-day operations.

- [Brierley Building Restoration at County Hall](https://www.williambirch.co.uk/case-study/brierley-building-restoration-at-county-hall/): Repairs to the external envelope of the building were carried out to prevent water ingress re-occurring, this involved replacement of failed lead work, repair of the downpipes and patch repointing of the external masonry with a lime mortar mixed to match the original. These repairs were carried out to a high standard using like-for-like materials and methods that had previously stood the test of time. Repairs to the fibrous plaster ceiling panels included consolidation and re-wadding works to strengthen the ceiling structure, and to improve the aesthetic look of the ceiling from below by filling holes and cracks to the plaster.

- [The Weston](https://www.williambirch.co.uk/case-study/the-weston/): The building’s low-profile form and richly textured concrete echo the local sandstone geology. Using locally sourced aggregates and carefully layered, pigmented in situ concrete, the walls capture the earthy tones and strata of the surrounding landscape. Extensive material testing ensured a finish that will weather beautifully over time, while a reduced-cement mix significantly lowered the building’s environmental impact.
- [Hylton Castle Restoration](https://www.williambirch.co.uk/case-study/hylton-castle-restoration/): The historical research by the archaeologists enabled us to understand the Castle fabric better and assisted by the conservation department of Sunderland City Council, Historic England and in consultation with English Heritage, we were able to determine the historically correct replacement materials - such as replacement stonework and restoration techniques, whilst utilising the best of modern conservation materials in the repairs.
- [Glen Lodge Extra Care, York](https://www.williambirch.co.uk/case-study/glen-lodge-extra-care-york/): We worked closely with the Glen Lodge care team to understand daily routines and specific requirements, ensuring construction activities were programmed around operational needs. A ‘Meet the Contractor’ event was held for residents and neighbours, and our Site Manager remained accessible throughout the project to address queries and concerns. Regular letter drops and a structured communication programme supported transparency, and the project was delivered in line with the Considerate Constructors Scheme.

- [York Mansion House Refurbishment – The Opening Doors project](https://www.williambirch.co.uk/case-study/york-mansion-house-refurbishment-the-opening-doors-project/): Our restoration works carefully re-imagined the building to support its future use while respecting its historic significance. Previously, the house functioned as both a residence for the Lord Mayor and workplace, with private rooms sitting alongside the grand State Room. Through sensitive alteration and repair, we helped open up the building to make its remarkable history more accessible, transforming it into a flexible events venue and visitor attraction.
