William Birch stands unequivocally committed to achieving net zero carbon. We fully recognise the escalating severity of climate change. Our vision is uncompromising: to drive down emissions at pace, embed low‑carbon innovation into every decision, to achieve a more resilient, climate‑responsible future. We acknowledge that the impacts of climate change are intensifying now, and therefore our strategy prioritises rapid, measurable carbon reduction, science‑led action, and a relentless pursuit of sustainable excellence.
Carbon Reduction Progress and Targets
We established a robust carbon baseline in 2023 and implemented practical measures and low carbon construction methods to realise an organisational net carbon reduction of 32% in the first two years (all Scope 1, 2 and defined set of Scope 3 emissions). Ongoing actions target further continual reductions through improved monitoring, material efficiency, and sustainable operational practices to achieve, or surpass, the 2050 government’s net zero target, with an achievable interim target of 50% carbon reduction by 2028.

Our carbon reduction strategy focuses on practical, achievable actions implemented across our operations. This includes reducing waste, improving efficiency and adopting lower-carbon alternatives where feasible, whilst enhancing safety, quality, and programme delivery.
Encouraging collaboration
William Birch encourage collaboration with clients, and our supply chain to formulate strategies that reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable practices. We assess the sustainability competence of all supply chain organisations, with whom we engage, to support adoption of our processes and procedures on all our sites.

We are accelerating efforts to reach net zero by:
