Building on the Harrogate Foundation

William Birch & Sons Birch, the Yorkshire construction company, has had a fantastic year in Harrogate. Completion has taken place on two major projects valued together at over £5M. Both will be great assets for the people of Harrogate and surrounding area.

The Royal Horticultural Society Learning Centre at Harlow Carr is a cutting-edge modern building which was designed to exceed the latest sustainable standards. It has already won awards from industry leaders such as Yorkshire and Humber Best Practice and  Green Apple and will win many more. The experience gained here from these cutting-edge technologies is now being used to benefit our Clients on future projects.

The Carnegie Library on Victoria Avenue in Harrogate was opened to rapturous acclaim. The structural alterations made to improve the natural light will surprise many Harrogate residents, who remember the old building. The new facilities and technologies have given the town the very latest in library services and much, much more. Our previous experience on Listed building projects has enabled us to sympathetically incorporate the new into the old.

As well as these two prestigious schemes, we have completed four smaller but no less important contracts in the District with combined values of £2M. The first is the conversion of stone-built farm buildings to holiday accommodation for the National Trust at Fountains Abbey. There were two school extensions, one at St Cuthbert’s, Pateley Bridge and second at Pannal. The last scheme completed was improvements at Forest Lane Children’s Centre, Starbeck.

Our commitment to Harrogate continues with a project programmed for completion in 2011 for a school extension at Rossett Acre Primary.

William Birch are proud of their longstanding association with the town, its people and the professions based there. We also look to continue working with our Harrogate supply chain and would welcome any contractors who would like to register with us. David Holden, Commercial Director said “I am a Harrogate resident and take a great deal of pleasure when the Company can make very real improvements to my town’s built environment. This year has been very productive and I hope Rossett Acre is the first of many more contracts to complete in 2011”.
