"RHS Garden Harlow Carr is a tourist attraction of regional importance. It was essential therefore that Carl Barrow (the Site Manager) effectively managed the day to day construction activities to minimise the impact on our customers. During the main construction period the site was attracting more visitors than ever before adding to the challenges. Regularly weekly meetings were held with Carl to exchange relevant site information.
He provided exemplary leadership to the sub-contractors and was diligent in keeping local residents informed of the development of the building and when construction activity may have an impact on them. During the construction period the client’s representative received many comments on the tidiness of the site, many customers saying they had not experienced such considerate contractors. Carl even went to the extreme to talk to local schools who visited the Garden to explain what was happening and encouraging them to keep an eye on the building as it developed.
There were many occasions when fundraisers needed to show potential donors around the site. Any request for this to happen was met with warmly by both Carl and Simon (Construction Manager), who ensured that visitors met stringent H&S requirements whilst on site. The RHS would not hesitate to recommend Simon Potter and Carl Barrow as an efficient, confident and effective team capable of delivering projects to the required standards and with good humour which every large project requires."
