1874 William Birch establishes company in York.1895 William joined in business by his 3 sons.
1913 Eldest son William Henry, Lord Mayor and Alderman of York, takes over. The business
develops and expands throughout the First World War and beyond.
1920's the 3rd generation, Arnold and Jack join the company, having served craft apprenticeships.
Post-war reconstruction work in York consolidates the success and reputation of
the company.
1960's John Birch (4th generation) joins the company with a degree in construction
and experience with national contractors. Company exceeds £1million turnover for
the first time.
1970's Christopher Birch (also 4th generation) joins the company with a degree in Civil
Engineering and experience with national contractors. Company celebrates 100th
Anniversary.
1980's The Company builds new premises in York City centre to cope with continued expansion.
1990's Turnover reaches £7million and 125th Anniversary is celebrated.
2001 Leeds small works office established in Horsforth. Total company turnover has
grown to over £16 million.
2002 The company constructs and moves into new offices adjoining their plant hire
operation on a site close to the A64 bypass.
2006 Onwards
